SAFD 2020
by Dave ClineChiefs Report, blog
The Smithville Area Fire Protection has finished up a busy 2019 and is eagerly forging ahead into 2020. In 2019, Smithville firefighters responded to over 1,200 requests for service with an average response time of 7 minutes and 9 seconds. SAFD had fire safety or public relations contacts with over 3,500 children and 2,300 adults, our certified child safety seat technician installed 15 car seats, and firefighters installed or maintained 173 smoke alarms! We are committed to serving our community and providing our citizens and visitors the very best in service. Training and professional development are a big part of our culture at SAFD; in 2019 Smithville firefighters put in over 3,300 hours of training to be better prepared to respond to the needs of our community.
So where are we headed in 2020? The year is off to a busy start with requests for service; in January firefighters responded to over 100 incidents and February has been even busier. Staff have worked out and aggressive training schedule for the year and are now focusing on a long-term career development program for our personnel. We are also eagerly anticipating the general election in November when citizens will be asked to consider a funding question on the ballot to add additional SAFD firefighters.
