In 2021, Smithville Area Fire Protection District responded to 1,329 incidents. This is a decrease of 3% from 2020. The average response times to these incidents district-wide was 8 minutes and 42 seconds. Responses included 59 incidents involving fire, 944 medical or rescue incidents, 53 hazardous conditions incidents, 44 service calls, 168 good intent calls, 58 false alarms, and 2 weather related incidents.
In 2021, our certified child safety seat installers installed 19 child safety seats, and SAFD installed 68 smoke alarms in our community. SAFD also provided 9 free CPR classes to the community and attended a total of 45 public education/public relations events. In July of 2021 the Smithville Area Fire Protection District added 3 new Firefighter-EMT positions. As we enter 2022, the Fire District is continuing to conduct interviews to fill additional positions as we increase staffing to open Fire Station #3.
